Galvanising
Galvanising is a method of protecting steel from corrosion.
Hot-dip galvanising is when an object is passed through a bath of molten zinc which adheres to the surface of the object.
The zinc oxidises when exposed to the elements and eventually produces a compound called zinc carbonate on its surface, which sticks to the underlying zinc very well and protects the object from corrosion. Similar to the way aluminium and stainless steel react to oxidization.
Galvanising application
Galvanising is used when the substrate requires protection from corrosion such as in coastal area where the risk of deterioration is accelerated by salt water etc.
It can also be used for aesthetic purposes where the client prefers the galvanised look to that of paint.
We also use galvanising as a form of pre-treatment in our Powder Coating Facility.
